Corriente
Raffia
90 x 1.30 cm
2024
Corriente continues the exploration of the Sedimentos series, where I sought to invite greater fluidity into textiles by breaking away from rigid patterns. The work is guided by qualities of rhythm, intuition, and flow that arise naturally in my painting but are harder to find in textile processes. Inspired by the imagery and symbolism of rivers, it reflects movement, change, and the steady persistence of natural forces over time.
The surface is dense and tactile, carrying both calm and intensity, like water that can appear gentle yet also carry strength and danger. In this way, Corriente speaks about the duality of nature and the shifting ways in which we perceive it, depending on our own state of being. It also marks a transition in my practice, where the persistence of craft meets an increasing openness to wildness, unpredictability, and raw material presence.
